I Think this is the self test

Go to front of printer, get eye-level to bottom of printer. Look for a small opening at the middle of the large indentation. This is an access door. Place a small flat blade screw driver in the middle of the slot and (caution access door will pop out) pry up on the handle of the screwdriver. On the left side is a round switch. Using an nonconductive tool smaller in diameter than a pencil, press switch.

Wait till printer is in standby mode.

Lift the left side and locate a lever on the bottom directly under the air vents 3/4 of the way toward the back.

Depress the test lever.

It prints a vertical line down the paper.
